Local enterprise offices launch vlog to inspire regional entrepreneurs

The Local Enterprise Offices of Carlow and Kilkenny have launched an ambitious new initiative to support the region’s entrepreneurial community with the debut of the Spark Series, a vlog that will run every Tuesday and Thursday on Facebook throughout the remainder of 2025.

The series brings together some of the southeast’s most accomplished business leaders to share their expertise and experiences with aspiring and established entrepreneurs. Featured guests include David Walsh, co-founder of Halocare and former Netwatch executive, who brings deep knowledge of security innovation and technology-driven business development.

Also participating is Rachel Doyle, founder of Arboretum, as well as Mags Kirwan, managing director of Goatsbridge Trout Farm, recognised as one of Ireland’s leading sustainable aquaculture operations, and business strategist Blaise Brosnan, author and director of the Management Resource Institute, whose extensive work with Irish small and medium enterprises has helped numerous entrepreneurs achieve sustainable growth.

“By showcasing the journeys and expertise of established entrepreneurs like David, Rachel, Mags, and Blaise, we hope to spark new ideas and confidence among those starting or scaling their businesses,” said Seamus Doran, assistant head of economic development at Carlow County Council.

“This initiative reinforces our commitment to accessible learning and peer support.” The content will address key business development areas including innovation strategies, marketing approaches, funding opportunities, and leadership development, all specifically tailored to meet the needs of regional small and medium enterprises.

Catherine Hennessey, senior enterprise development officer, emphasised the practical focus of the initiative. “Providing educational content tailored to the needs of entrepreneurs is key to supporting business development. The Spark Series delivers practical knowledge and motivation in a format that is easy to access and engage with, helping to build stronger, more resilient businesses across Carlow and Kilkenny.”

The twice-weekly format aims to provide consistent, timely content to help local business owners stay informed and motivated throughout their entrepreneurial journeys.

Cllr Ken Murnane, cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, highlighted the collaborative aspect of the initiative. “Strong business communities thrive on sharing knowledge and networking. The Spark Series fosters these essential connections, helping entrepreneurs learn from each other and grow together.” KCLR presenter John Purcell will host the series, bringing his broadcasting experience to facilitate conversations with the featured entrepreneurs.

“I’m delighted to be working alongside the Local Enterprise Offices and this inspiring group of entrepreneurs,” Purcell said. “Together, we’re capturing the energy and innovation that drive our local economy forward, engaging the next generation of business leaders.” The Spark Series can be followed on the Local Enterprise Office Facebook pages for both Carlow and Kilkenny counties, with viewers encouraged to join the conversation using the hashtag #SparkSeries.
